Our new 3D home theater, shown are Parade Home #4 is a shutter free system. That means no expensive 3D glasses to purchase. It uses the same glasses the movie theaters use. Any where from $4-$20, these glasses are not an arm and a leg to replace. Unlike the $100 - $150 for an active system. That is a double ouch if you happen to sit on a pair. Also, some people have reported headaches with shutter glasses. No need to have that headache with our system.

Our Security vs. Theirs

So I have looked into ADT just to see what the competition does. I thought I'd let you know what I found out or tried to find out. They always seem to have these "great" deals but you have to read the fine print and hopefully you can understand it.

Their "deal" at this time:
Pay $299 and get $200 cash back if you order over the Internet. Monitoring per month starts at $42.99 (they say $1 a day but I didn't see that in the terms and conditions). And don't forget the $25 connection fee. With that you have to enter a 3 year contract and they maintain ownership of the equipment.

Our all-the-time rates:
All the equipment, installation and set up is $400. You own the system. You can choose to have it monitored or not. If it is not monitored, and you arm the system it will still sound an alarm if tripped. To have it monitored with us it is $228 per year which equals $19 per month. You enter a one year contract.

The Breakdown:
Over 3 years you would pay:
ADT - $1671.64 (or $1219 if it is a $1 a day)
AED - $1084.00

Sure you have to pay us a little more up front but in the end you have saved $587.64 and you own your system with the option of monitoring.

What are you doing for earth day? One of the things I am doing is opening up the shades and turning off the lamp on my desk. I would be planting my garden but alas, I'm working. Earth day is all about planting trees, picking up trash, recycling, and of course, cutting down on energy consumption. According to CNET, plasma TVs, on average, consume about 2 to 3 times more energy than their LCD counterparts in the tests they ran. However overall an LED backlit are the most energy efficient and they look great too. So if you are thinking about a new TV and are wanting something energy efficient, the LED is the way to go. 3D Technology in Your Home?

When I think of 3D, I think of getting those red and blue cardboard glasses out of my cereal box and watching the comic strip on the back of the cereal box pop out at me. Things have really changed. And are still. Coming up in the next year you will be able to have the 3D technology you see in the movie theater in your home. Many major brands are slated to release this technology on LDC and Plasma TVs later this year. DPI is going to be offering a 3D projector for your home theaters. Most manufacturers are not giving pricing on this upcoming technology. Though, Mitsubishi and Samsung will be offering "3D ready" sets that will cost the same or not much more than their "regular" counterparts. Although they require an external box to create the 3D effect. And then there is the price of the glasses. Most manufactures require active glasses that start at about $100 each. Of course with 3D, you have to have everything to make it work, Blue-ray will be releasing players and even channels on TV in 3D format. Sports is a target media and there is word that the Discovery Channel will be releasing a 24/7 3D channel.

I reciently blogged about how much we liked the new LED technology for TVs. I thought I would write about a specific TV from LG. The 55-inch 55LXH is one of the few models that is backlit by a full array of LEDs and is capable of local dimming. Recently we went to one of our dealers and got to view all the newest TVs available on the market today. Our new favorite is the LED back lit LCD TVs. We thought it was the greatest picture quality we have seen yet. The LED really added depth to the picture. We could tell a big difference between the LED and the regular LCD TV.

Buyer Beware!

Many, though not all, of the products we sell can be purchased on the internet. I thought it would be good to inform you that not all internet retailers are authorized dealers of the product. That means that the manufacturer warranty is null and void if purchased from an unauthorized dealer or reseller.

Example from SpeakerCraft's Disclaimer for online purchases:

"Please Take Note! SpeakerCraft products are ONLY sold through a network of local authorized dealers. Authorized SpeakerCraft dealers have the knowledge and training to supply you with SpeakerCraft products that best meet your needs, and to install those products so that you'll enjoy their maximum performance."

SpeakerCraft does allow a few online authorized resellers for those who do not have a dealer in the area. Amazon.com is not one of them.

I urge you to do your homework if you decide to purchase product online. Make sure the seller is authorized. Ask them if they warranty the product through the manufacturer or if they do returns. Or purchase through a authorized dealer like us to ensure that if there is a problem with the product we can easily take care of it.

And its all connected to your internet system so it is wireless! What to do about your old Tv. Starting in 2009 any TV that does not have a digital tuner, including vcrs will not be able to accept a signal. All TV's and vcr's as of 2007 have a digital tuner built in. You will need a satellite- cable box or digital to analog converter.
